In recent years, I have used OSB as a basis. By retracting the paint layers, I use the texture of the veneer as part of my compositions to create a unique rustic industrial atmosphere. Due to the OSB board, these works of art are very stable but heavy. This is recycled art.
The painting is made with self-made paint, which consists of pigments and beeswax. Does not contain oil or other paints.

The procedure itself dates back to antiquity and has been known for thousands of years. Only a few artists around the world work with wax on their own.

That's why it is either destroyed, rebuilt, or becomes something completely incomprehensible. However, regardless of what we think and feel, everyone wants to believe that we will be able to keep the essence and foundation of our original world. Everyone keeps something important inside. Something that allows us to remain ourselves.

50x40 cm. 2022. This work is my first and currently only experience in writing someone else's dream. It was a rather unusual experiment and, as I think, a very successful one.
This work was born from the phrase: "I wonder how you will see my dream". I really tried to put my best into this work. That is why I leave it up to you to understand the meaning that was put into this work.

The word "Uhuru" is Swahili for "Freedom". As a Tanzanian, I have grown up seeing women around me wear the Khanga on their head.

As an African Canadian woman, I have often been faced by stereotypes, and negative societal concepts. A great number of these have often tried to suppress my identity, my thoughts, my ideas, and my words, because of who I am. From being told that I cannot be a certain way because I am a girl, to being told I cannot express myself in a certain way due to my cultural background, there have been a great number of hurdles blocking me from expressing my thoughts, feelings and ideas.

In my culture - Tanzanian culture, women wear the Khanga on their heads as a headwrap. The colors of the khanga have different meanings, and so do the little phrases that are printed on them.

In the painting, the colors trapped in the khanga have come out, depicting freedom. They show that everyone deserves the freedom to express their thoughts and ideas. The butterflies coming out from the Khanga have a similar meaning. They turn gold as they come out, depicting prosperity, freedom, mental wealth, and more.

This painting is not only a representation of my story, but of all people who have fought for their freedom to speak, for their freedom of expression, ideas, and identity. It is a representation of the power that a person could hold, and the difference they can make, when they have the freedom to do so.
