I rarely paint landscapes, but the experience of the rainforest’s incredible intensity fit perfectly with the vibrant expression and powerful imagery that have characterized my painting series “Solarizations”. My retrospective journey to the historically renowned Thai river Khwae Noi is a return to the heart of the jungle—its energy and vitality. The bacchanalia of rainforest flora creates forms that at first glance seem familiar, yet upon closer inspection reveal an overwhelming richness and diversity. In the jungle, an all-encompassing, profound calm permeates everything around, standing in stark contrast to the constant transformation and often aggressive competition among plants for survival. In “By the river Kwai” I sought precisely these qualities in the river’s stillness, the wild saturation of orange, the intensity of light, and the diversity of shapes. The composition, based on a classical landscape, suggests something very familiar, yet through its transformed colors it transports us toward alien worlds where the rules we know no longer apply. The work is characterized by refined execution, varied texture, and a high luminosity enhanced by the selective use of phthalic enamel white. So far, the painting has been presented at exhibitions in Gdynia, Sopot and Warsaw, as well as at the prestigious “Art Zaborek” artistic plein-air event in Janów Podlaski.
