Echo of antiquity

Jarmila Marčišová

Jarmila Marčišová is a standout of the contemporary Slovak art scene, blending rigorous academic mastery with a bold, modern vision. Her work exists in the captivating tension between classicist ideals and unfettered gestural abstraction. At the heart of her practice is the sculpture—a central motif she imbues with a sense of dynamic life. These monochromatic figures serve as visual metaphors for the human psyche, embodying stillness and focus amidst the "whirlwind" of modern existence. By contrasting serene forms with explosive, impasto layers of color, Marčišová bridges the gap between historical memory and the present, offering a profound, visceral aesthetic experience.
