This work is called Evening in Purple, the first in a series named Portraits of Mother Nature. The black and white "halo" around the figure, represents the contrast between human activity and the wonderful workings of nature, the contrast between our destructive endeavours and re-creation of nature. One could also say that the strong contrast between black and white is equivalent of the contrast between light and darkness, contrast between life and death. The black and white elements spread out of the sphere of man's activity into the realm of nature - equally nature enters into the questionable activity of man. The female figure represents both us and Mother Nature, a reminder that we are a part of the same fragile sphere, calling us to be ever more mindful on how we treat her, each otherand and our surroundings. I delibarately used strong line work and a combination of illustrative elements to ephasise this.
