This piece portrays two sea animals and is based on an abstract idea about time, emotional vulnerability and music. It was inspired by my childhood memory of the novel Momo by Michael Ende, where a turtle stays completely unaffected by time. The artwork is mainly based around the idea: time isn't linear, like so it only ever exists in the present moment. It can be seen as a gateway to dimensions which we cannot perceive through our five senses (this includes as simple of concepts as our emotional world, thoughts or dreams). This connects to astrological theories, where the planet Saturn is referred to as the lord of time, while symbolizing a gate between life and death or the physical and non-physical world. On another layer, the piece holds an idea on emotions and the duality of vulnerability: our defenses don't only hide our sensitive parts, but highlight them. It criticizes prejudice and makes us question how accurately we can truly understand one's internal world solely by perceiving them. The significance of music and harmonies appears. It is the thing allowing us to connect to the present moment and is a universal language capable of connecting to anybody's soul, opening up new possibilities within our own consciousness. Isn't rhythm itself the essence of all life if we think of heartbeats, breathing, phases of a day, as well as the physical world like sound waves or light? The painting was mainly created with the intention of reminding myself of the strength of sensitivity and the importance of staying present within our own life. It embodies a world which exists outside of time, and is accepting and allowing towards any emotion or state of being, not labeling either as negative or positive.
