In Bearer of the Wild, the rhinoceros emerges not only as an endangered creature, but as a living continent—carrying on its back the forests, rivers, and ecosystems that depend on its survival. Its body becomes the land itself: scarred, resilient, and still beautiful.
This painting is a call to remember what we are losing. The cracked stone beneath the rhino's leg is etched with ancient cave drawings—remnants of the time when humans honored the wild and recognized their dependence on it. Now, as we drive species like the rhinoceros to extinction, those sacred bonds are being broken. What once was revered is now reduced to dust.
The bird lifting off from its back is both witness and messenger—a spark of life fleeing a world in danger. The rising dust signals urgency, while the dry trees and golden earth hint at a landscape under threat. And yet, within the rhino, nature still lives and breathes—reminding us that protection is still possible, if we choose it.
Bearer of the Wild is a reflection on our role as both destroyers and potential guardians. It is a plea not just for conservation, but for reconnection—to the Earth, to our memory, and to the living spirit of the wild.
