Iryna Akimova
Iryna Akimova was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine. She graduated from Kharkiv State University and got her PhD degree. She lives and works in Kyiv. Iryna is the member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. Iryna works in painting, installations, video-animation and performance. She develops expressionistic style with a surrealistic touch to reflect the complexity and non-linearity of human perceptions. She analytically converts abstract concepts and real human emotions into vivid visual images.Her artworks have philosophical background and contain allegories and an invitation for the viewer to continue the dialogue. In her portfolio, there are 18 solo- and 70+ group exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad. She got awards at the international art competitions. Her artworks are in the museums and private collections in Ukraine, Germany, Slovakia, and China. She is the leader of the Ukrainian Association of Feminine Research in the Arts (UAFRA), which advocates gender equality in the arts. She founded annual WomenArtFest, which takes place in Kyiv in partnership with the leading art institutions.
