I am a Slovak painter born in Bratislava. After a decade spent in Belgium and Greece, currently I live alternately in Bratislava (Slovakia) and Friedberg (Austria). I have been painting intensively for over 30 years. I paint mainly in the style of abstract expressionism, a style characterized by a strong emotional charge and personal passion. I seek inspiration in the bustling city, but also in the authentic environment of small villages “with God at my back”, which provide sufficient space not only for undisturbed communication with the surrounding world, but also with myself. In some of my work, I let myself be carried away by complete freedom without any apparent connection to reality. And what does the curator say about my work? “Mária Hrabinská’s paintings convey a world in which joy and love reign. It is colorful, woven from dreams and memories, reality is usually lost in it or well hidden, the emotions and impressions that she experiences and which flow from her paintings are essential. Mária paints quickly and confidently with the elegance of a free brushstroke. With her own temperament, she negates details, simplifies to the core, only the essential gets on the canvas. Gestures and a sense of rhythm of the surface prevail. In addition to the choice of themes and motifs and means of expression, the handling of color is especially important for her. And in this Mária is a master par excellence! Mária's compositions, whether abstract or figurative, are bursting with color and draw us into mysterious spaces and stories. She often uses contrasting color tones and strong lines, which give her paintings expressive impact and dynamics. Mária Hrabinská paints the world she likes... A world that is authentic and sincere...” Dr. Katarína Čierna, art historian, 2024
