This work is an original reinterpretation of the myth of absolute love, metamorphosing the figure of Dante Alighieri into that of Orpheus, symbol of the artist consumed by longing and aspiration towards the ideal.
Starting from the conviction that Dante was inspired by the legend of Orpheus and Eurydice when he imagined his journey to the afterlife to find Beatrice, the sculpture proposes a profound visual synthesis between two myths that transcend time.
Dante-Orpheus is depicted frontally, with a lyre in his hands and an expression of contemplation, symbol of poetry and divine music, the instruments through which he tries to transcend death. Behind him, Beatrice who follows Dante like Eurydice follows Orpheus, appears sculpted in negative, as an illusory, immaterial presence, symbol of the inaccessible ideal.
This artistic choice emphasizes her spiritual, almost oneiric character – Beatrice is no longer a being of flesh and blood, but a projection of memory and desire.
The shape of the outline, fluid and almost spectral, evokes the fragility of memory and the ephemerality of lost love, while the contrast between Dante's full figure and the emptiness in which Beatrice is silhouetted accentuates the drama of a love that can only be achieved through art or transcendence.
This sculpture is, therefore, not only a work of art, but also a visual meditation on the creative power of longing, memory and the human aspiration to overcome the limits of the material world.
