Aphrodite as the goddess of beauty and love.
Love. Love?
Today, people are born attached to smartphones and life is largely lived in virtual space. This also brings with it new forms and new experiences of love. Although smartphones and the Internet can sometimes really help love, more often than not they distort it. We declare as love that which in its true essence is not at all.
Self-love is just an excuse for ego-boosting selfies with filters. And the other one? She doesn't like herself because she compares herself to perfect figures on Instagram, with facelifts and botox.
Also a lie about love called OnlyFans. Since when does lusting over the naked bodies of unknown (but real) women equate to love? Since when is animal instinct enough to talk about love? Where has the deep feeling gone? And where is the sacrifice?
And finally, virtual relationships live behind the keyboard, while the offline world is full of single people.
I think the image of the ancient goddess, the classical artistic representation of Aphrodite, in one of her typical poses (Aphrodite di Capua) with a smartphone in her hand is a bit shocking. It seems as if she is taking a picture of herself or as if she is watching something on the screen. It can cause concern, maybe a smile, but in any case it can lead to thought.
