Work “Twins” explores the notion of duality through the relationship between two closely connected yet individually defined organic figures. Their visual similarity establishes a sense of correspondence and interdependence, while their subtle differences maintain the individuality of each figure. The work examines the space between sameness and difference, connection and separation, and the individual and the collective. A significant aspect of the work is the treatment of the figures’ heads through the use of bleach. The natural canvas is deliberately subjected to a process of bleaching and gradual erosion, with the material being lightened and removed to the point of visual and physical destruction. What initially appears as an act of cleansing becomes an act of transformation: the more the surface is cleaned, the more it is damaged. The process leaves traces of absence, exposing the fragility of the material and turning the canvas itself into a record of intervention. The heads of the figures therefore become particularly significant. Their partial erasure suggests the removal or disturbance of identity, while the act of cleansing introduces an inherent contradiction between preservation and destruction. The attempt to purify the surface does not restore it to an original state; instead, it permanently alters it. This material process is closely connected to the conceptual relationship between the two figures. Although they appear as a pair, the bleaching of their heads disrupts the sense of complete symmetry and recognition. Their identities become partially obscured, raising questions about individuality, sameness and the extent to which identity is preserved through the presence of another.
